Bail bonds & release.

Start with the release order, understand your options, and know what to ask before signing.

Begin with the written order.

Minnesota Rule 6.02 addresses release on recognizance, unsecured bonds and court-imposed conditions. A court may require supervision, restrictions or financial security. The rule also provides for a money-bail alternative. Your attorney can explain which option applies and how separate orders affect you.

Posting bail does not decide the case. Required court appearances continue. Do not change monitoring, testing or other obligations on your own.

Before a bail-bond agreement

  • Confirm the person’s name, holding county and exact bail amount with the jail or court.
  • Ask the agent to explain the premium, additional fees, collateral and payment terms in writing.
  • Ask what each signer could owe after a missed appearance or forfeiture.
  • Keep the agreement, receipt and agency contact information.
